GRRM fans, check out Ted Nasmith's website:Working closely with Martin, the artist has been commissioned to illustrate an assortment of castles from the series for the upcoming ASOIAF sourcebook . There will be 13 works produced, each a distinct location based on the author's descriptions.

I have a feeling that these illustrations will whet ASOIAF fans' appetite for that sourcebook. . .;-) It sure looks like this will be a 100 times better than The Wheel of Time sourcebook which was published a few years back.

ReplyDeleteIn most cases fantasy art destroys the sense of wonder you get from a book.
ReplyDeleteThis is a rare case of an artist who can preserve and enhance that sense of wonder. So "seeing" those places for the first time actually adds to the books.
By the way. THAT art would make a good cover.

ReplyDeleteLove it!!! The one for "The Eyrie" is particularly breathtaking :) I would have liked more of a closeup of "Dragonstone" though ;)
ReplyDeleteMost of it is absolutley fantastic, though perhaps even a bit larger in scope than I imagined in it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'm a fan of the depitction of Harrenhall though. It just isn't anything like I imagined.
Are these also in The Art of George R.R. Martin's a Song of Ice and Fire?
ReplyDeleteNo. Some of the art in the artbook may reappear in the World book (apparently the Targaryen family pictures may be reprinted), but Nasmith's pictures are brand new, as will be a lot of the art in the book (particularly the new maps, including some of the eastern continent).
