The David Gemmell Award for Fantasy

From the official website:

The DGLA will be presented for the very first time in 2009 for the best Fantasy novel of 2008. The award will be given to a work written in the 'spirit' of the late, great David Gemmell, a true Master of Heroic Fantasy.

I don't believe I have ever seen such a high number of nominees for an award, but what the heck!?!

  1. Unfortunately too many of which (I don't believe I have ever seen such a high number of nominees for an award) aren't (Heroic Fantasy).

I voted for The Steel Remains. Regardless of Pat's opinion, it was the best book I read in 2008.

  3. Erm, did anyone happen to notice that those are only the nomination for the shortlist? Not for the award itself.

Thanks Roland, at least someone noticed. :-)

  5. Anon,

Why should Pat's opinion (or anybody's for that matter) have any bearing on what you felt was the best book you read last year?

  6. I voted last week.
Of course there are a lot of books. And I didn't read them all. But there are books listed which belong to heroic fantasy.
So anyone should find a book to vote for.

And as Roland said, this is the vote for the shortlist.

  7. With so many nominees, I was disappointed to note the lack of "Return of the Crimson Guard," as it was definitely one of my favourite reads this year, and could (with a spin) fit into the definition of "heroic fantasy."
