This is Darrell K. Sweet's unfinished cover art for Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's
A Memory of Light.
Love him or hate him, Sweet gave
The Wheel of Time its visual identity and I prefer his covers, even the atrocious ones, to the new ones Tor Books came up with.
What can I say!?! I'm old school! ;-)
Wtf, is that Rand dead? My love affair with these books will just die. Even if it's likely but still..on the cover?
ReplyDeletesweet, Sweet!
ReplyDeleteI quite liked his covers - they literally oozed traditional fantasy - but this one does nothing for me.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, even a poor Sweet cover is better than those lazy new reissues.
Agree with Pat. I'd rather see this used exactly as it is if only for the fact that Sweet was as integral to the series as some of Jordan's secondary characters (for me)!
ReplyDeleteSo blissful scenery... This "blue" is wonderful. Greetings :)
ReplyDeleteThis is Sweet's first draft and unfortunately he passed away just recently in December. The new cover will be done by Michael Whelan.

At least the people on this cover are actually from the book. That's an improvement for Sweet.
ReplyDeleteIs Whelan going to use this?
