You can now download Terry Goodkind's
Wizard's First Rule for only 1.99$
here. Probably what it's worth. . .
Here's the blurb:
Millions of readers the world over have been held spellbound by this valiant tale vividly told.
Now, enter Terry Goodkind's world, the world of the Sword of Truth.
In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help ... and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.
In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword-- to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed ... or that their time has run out.
This is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

heard some things about this guy, is this the time to take the plunge? :)
Given how much you despise TG I'm surprised you would even mention one of his books. But then I saw your little dig about it being worth only $2 and understood.
Personally I didn't mind the first 4 or 5 books in the series. But they got worse and worse as the series went on.
Tu ne devrais même pas en parler, c'est déjà trop de publicité pour une crap du genre.
This hurts my heart Pat. How did Tairy find his way here?
The first 3 books are decent.
Spoiler alert ****
The first rule is that people believe what they want to believe. Which is very true imo, kind of funny how it applies to this guy's Randian ethos too.
this repetitive hatred to goodkind here is funny. especially if you conisder the love to terrible authors like rothfuss and bakker r. scott. even erikson's malazan books plunged from hights to extreme lows.
what so special about goodkind to justify this hatred ?
imo, the answer is robert jordan's fans for some reason considering this series as a rival, so tell me, did the wheel of time turn out shit or not ?
did the malazan turn out shit or not ?
@machinery, you can't please everyone. I'm not a fan of the Malazan books, or Bakker, or Jordan. But the thing with Goodkind, aside from stupidly repetitive his books got near the end is that the man himself is reportedly a big douche who thinks way too much of himself.
I really enjoyed the first 5 books or so, but as others have said, the took a serious down turn. I even read "The Omen Machine" and that was the end of Goodkind books for me.
As to Malazan, I slogged thru each and every one of those books. Not a series I'd recommend.
As for Rothfuss and Martin, neither will ever see a dime from me again, due to the ridiculous waits between books. I'll read 'em from the library and won't buy any more books from either.
machinery, the reason why the hatred of TG occurs is not because he is competition for Robert Jordan, its because TG is a right wing Randian in his politics.
The entire fantasy blogosphere has been taken over by left wing cultural Marxists in the last decade, so they hate on TG a matter of principle.
If TG had instead been a spouter of progressive tropes in his personal life and press interviews, you can be sure that Patrick and his ilk would have found a reason to like his books despite the disagreeable content in them.
