it's important that people know that this author is a hypocritical anti-semite who rejects the existence of israel as a jewish state.

This is quite a grave accusation you're making. May I ask on what you base this comment?
Besides, do you clame he is an anti semite that hates jews because of their religion or 'race' or merly an anti sioniste who believes that the creastion of Israel was such a bad idea in the first place.
Their's quite an important distinction between the two.

china meiville refuses to translate his books to hebrew, basically it means to me as an israeli that i'm being prejudiced.
since he has no problems translating his books to chinese, which is as cruel a dictatorship as any, it raises question about his candor, is it politics or personal perception of others.
maybe you or others can refine the discussion to one point or another, I'm not here to argue.
just to make a point.
i'm being prejudiced by an author because he thinks that I shouldn't have a country to call home.
call it what you want.
respectfully.

Um, that is some of the most ridiculous claptrap that I have ever read? Where is the proof? Hebrew isn't exactly the most popular idiom and authors rarely have any say in which translations are authorized - foreign rights agents negotiate that. Don't see how the lack of a Hebrew edition leads to him thinking that Israel ought not to exist. Strange line of arguments there.

@Larry:

Exactly!

It's not the authors themselves that do the translating, of course.

If there's evidence that China Mieville especifically prohibited his books from being translated to hebrew, or any anti-Israel feeling that he might've expressed, I'd like to see it

Here`s an interview back from 2003 with CM bordering the issues mentioned here.

Just posted this on Win A Book.

Interesting interview. I could see where some who would have had strong feelings on the issue might take his comments as an implicit acceptance of anti-Semitic PoVs, but from what I could tell, he was speaking against the policies of the state of Israel and not about anything negative about the Jewish people, while acknowledging there were some anti-Zionists who were indeed anti-Semites. Not an easy course to chart in a politically-charged arena like that.

How incredibly disrespectful and ignorant to refer to Hebrew as an "idiom." It's a language.

Furthermore, there are many, many fantasy & SF novels that have been translated into Hebrew, and it IS attributable to the author if that doesn't happen. Make of that what you will.
