As far as I'm concerned, I think it's a very good fit. So hopefully it's true.
I reckon we'll soon get an official announcement. . .
Fantasy and science fiction and speculative fiction book reviews, author interviews, bestseller news, contests and giveaways, etc. Enjoy!

Cool, he fits the part well. Hopefully he's not typecast into Dying Fantasy characters though.
He's not my Stark, but he'll do. It's good to have a "big" name attached to it.
Pretty fucking awesome!
Figures to have Sean Bean, given the fate of Ned Stark ;-)
Too bad he dies so early on. Well, he won't have to do the gaspy, grasping the chest thing while getting his head lopped off.
Pretty cool of you guys to post major spoilers in the comments.
He's pretty much the type of guy I imagined while reading the book.
Your mom @ 9:07AM is right though, watch it with the spoilers :P
If you don't like this casting, who would have been a better fit for Ned?
Not bad, ive liked him as an actor ever since golden eye. I hope its true.
How funny, I just finished watching Bravo Two Zero where he does a great job acting outside of the more popular roles people know him from (like LOTR, Bond, etc.). I think he's do a good job with it.
Not my picture of Ned, either, but he'll do great. He's been a favorite of mine ever since the Sharpe series, which is well worth checking out.
Sean Bean playing some noble fantasy warrior is one of the best fits possible. His Boromir gave the LotR much additional appeal and even influenced in a positive way how the novels are perceived. I don't know why that is the case, but it's simply a great fit, and fun to watch him play the character.
He may not specifically fit to Eddard Stark but I think this is bearable, given that an adaption is never exact and he'll give a great performance.
