Anne Groell just got back to me, and here's the lowdown on Scott Lynch's The Republic of Thieves (Canada, USA, Europe): The final manuscript has not yet been turned in, so we are looking at a potential summer/fall 2010 release date at the moment, provided the manuscript ends up on her desk soon.
Anne remains hopeful that this will be the case. But Lynch must deal with a death in the family as we speak, so he has bigger fish to fry.
There you have it. . .

Anne Groell has the best job ever! All of her authors turn their manuscripts in years late! haha
god dammit I've been waiting for except Jim Butcher.this one for years and I though it was supposed 2 b coming out soon. Seems like all the good authors are always late finishing their books
ummm I must have just had a brain cramp or something what i meant to say was
"god dammit I've been waiting for this one for years and I though it was supposed 2 b coming out soon. Seems like all the good authors are always late finishing their books except Jim Butcher."
No idea how that last part got moved to the first line...
It is indeed unfortunate, but I don't want it rushed. I'd rather wait another year if it means keeping the quality intact
The other thing I was hearing was that Scott knows that coming back three years after the last book as a relatively new author means he needs to really knock it out of the park with THE REPUBLIC OF THIEVES to get people all fired up again. If he's doing that - and we know from previous interviews that Book 3 will mark a change in the way the series progresses onwards - than all the better.
"Seems like all the good authors are always late finishing their books" Coincidence? Or quality means extra time?
Shawn - that was a little passive aggressive wasn't it?
Also, isn't it the Gentleman Bastard Sequence not Gentlemen Bastards? Even Wikipedia has it wrong.
Yeah, it is. Scott Lynch even has it on his website's FAQ. Gentlemen BASTARD, singular. I hope it doesn't mean one of them dies. The end of Red Seas has me wondering what his plans are though.
Dammit too... With the missed deadlines and the lack of communication, I've been worrying that he won't make his appearance as the GOH at Armadillocon in about 4 weeks time. That was before the death of his grandfather, so now I'm really worried...
But I'd rather that he finishes the book than make a convention appearance. Scott and Joe Abercrombie are the absolute best genre Fantasy writers working right now, so I sincerely hope that he gets all things in his life going into the positive.
Positive thoughts to 'ya Scott! Long Live the "New Fantasy".
That will give me the opportunity to read book 1 and 2 before :>) My reading pile will last until summer 2010 without any problem.
