Scott Lynch Update

This from the Gollancz Blog regarding Scott Lynch's eagerly anticipated The Republic of Thieves (Canada, USA, Europe):

Well, the months have rolled around faster than anyone could quite credit and we find ourselves in 2012 and still without that final confirmed delivery of the completed draft of Scott Lynch’s The Republic of Thieves. Sadly those who expressed their doubts have been proved right and we’re now forced to move the likely date for Scott’s publication into the Autumn of this year.

Scott is still facing up to his issues and we’re still having to face up to the wait for his book. I know which I’d rather be dealing with.

So, we send our apologies to you and our very best wishes to Scott. Thank you, on his behalf, for bearing with us. And in the meantime, of course, (and to take some of the pressure of Scott) there are plenty of other wonderful books to be reading until The Republic of Thieves does make its appearance
.

There are SO many great books to read that are out there right now. Why do we all seem to fixate on the ones that are late?

Best of luck to Scott. I have to say I'm proud of how public and honest he has been in talking about depression.

I'm not all surprised by this. I assumed a late 2012 publishing date was only somewhat likely. Scott Lynch gets a truckload of salt for the delay of this novel considering the brutal personal life he had these past few years. My only real complaint has been Gollancz hyping release dates that they should have known were wildly optimistic. Book fans will wait, but if you feed them hope, they get restless when things get pushed back.

Here's hoping 2012 is a healthy year for Scott Lynch. We'll get back to Locke and Jean soon enough.

Best wishes to Scott.

In the meantime, re-read ASOIAF, check out Among Thieves, read The Heroes.

We all fixate on this one because they are such great books. I read many, many great books every month, but I still anticipate the next installment. I wish Mr. Lynch well, and eagerly await the day when I can purchase his next book.

I did not know he was ill. Best wishes and hope he gets well soon. We really want that book.

Good things come to those who wait. As much as we would all love to see the book come out on its scheduled time, I would rather have the book done the way it was meant to be done, rather than getting it half-assed and hurried. You gotta keep in mind that creative writing is a form of art. It'll be done when it's done and no sooner. That's just how it goes.

It'll be worth the wait, without a doubt. In the mean time we can still enjoy Rothfuss and Abercrombie and Kay and a plethora of other great authors. Take your time Scott and do whatever you need to find some happiness in life. You've got a legion of fans sending good wishes your way, brother

There's a great book out there by William Styron named Darkness Visible. He's an author who suffered through a deep suicidal depression, and this is his memoir through
madness, as he calls it. It's an incredible eye opening read, and if this is what Scott Lynch is suffering through I would not blame him if he never finished the book.

Give It a read!

Among Thieves? REALLY? I wouldn't publicly naysay a book unless it was really bad ... but that book was really bad. Lumping it in with Martin and Abercrombie is like having a Ferrari and a Porsche, and then adding a beat-up old Buick with fast food wrappers and baby vomit all over the seats.
