This is a shame. Redshirts was not a good novel. It was lowbrow and poorly executed.
Not my favorite book, however, Scalzi's concept was quite clever.
I like the premise of Red Shirts but having read his humorous stuff before... i tend to assume that MarkS is correct, which is why i haven't read it. Of course you don't expect an unknown actor to win an Oscar, so I wouldn't expect an unknown writer to win a Hugo either. But it's all by votes, so... *shrugs*
6086Redshirts proves the Hugo is a dead award. It is entertaining, but no where near the top of the books of last year. Hell, it isn't even novel length if you don't include the short stories tacked onto the end.
