New cover art for Patrick Rothfuss' THE NAME OF THE WIND

Rothfuss' immensely popular debut, The Name of the Wind, is going into a 4th printing. Some of the books will have this cool new cover, which means that it's time to put Fabio to rest. Finally!

Here's a scan of the book jacket. I'll post a high resolution jpeg as soon as I get one. . .:-)

It looks similar to the treatment for Tad Williams, not suprisingly.

Fabio was okay, but anyway, there was already another cover for it...I'm a bit surprised they didn't just use the 'green man' cover and drop the Fabio one, instead of adding a third one to the mix.

This last one will also be used for the paperback version.

Awesome cover. I like the dark, lone figure gracing the first two covers. I guess that's what we'll see on the third book's cover as well.

Great stuff. Gotta get a copy of the dust jacket or re-buy the book. I'm a cover whore when it comes to great covers -- can't have enough, says I!

Gotta laugh at the "A NOVEL" part though. haha At least they are planning on being consistent!

P.S. I forgot to say--it is a nice cover. All three are. I think I like the U.K. one, too....

Eh, I liked the other ones better. This just looks like a generic fantasy cover to me. The one with the wood face on the cover was the best I say.

Still think the sequel has the best cover and it's not even out yet. Fantastic use of perspective and shadow. It's in one of Pat's earlier posts if you're interested.

While I agree it looks nice, I can't get too excited about this cover. If I saw it on the shelf, I might ignore it along with all the other mediocre covers out there.

I think I'm one of the few that actually prefers the "Fabio" cover (despite being a guy). His chest didn't attract me, it was the haunted look in his eye. But I think the Green Man cover would be a decent replacement, maybe better than this one. Might go and confuse some people with multiple covers.

And is this the UK cover or the US cover?

Interesting news. It looks more generic fantasy now. However, there's a reason why "Don't judge a book by its cover." is still a popular saying. This book is the best truism of that, for me.

Is it just me, or is that the same tree from the cover of ACACIA?

Pamela, I had the same thought for two seconds! haha

Pamela, I had the same thought as well.

While I agree on the Fabio cover, I rather liked the one with the gargoyle. This cover is certainly nice but I got to wonder why they would bother changing the cover now.

A lot of covers seem to be going this direction (e.g. the new covers for GRRM's ASOIAF); trying for appeal to readers not normally attracted to the genre, or who don't want to be embarassed (!) (e.g. Harry Potter "adult" covers).

and when will we be seeing this new cover in stores though? I've yet to buy it, but plan on buying it soon and would prefer this cover to the others.
