US cover art for Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt series

Man, these covers are so much better than their UK counterparts! Lou Anders knows his stuff, no question!

Pyr will publish Empire in Black and Gold (Canada, USA, Europe) and Dragonfly Falling (Canada, USA, Europe) in 2010, but there is no cover art available for the third volume, Blood of the Mantis (Canada, USA, Europe), as of yet.

I think both the US and the UK covers are a bit naff and don't do the excellent story justice.

wow, those are really great!

SWEEEEET! This series is on my "buy me" list. I had a couple books I was going to read before I nabbed them from the UK, but after seeing these I think I'll wait for the US edition. These make up for the Warded/Painted man covers.

I love the new covers. Read the first book and liked it, cant wait to read the next one.

These are exceptional covers, but the UK art was better than 80% of the crap they put on US covers.

The covers rock, but I'm not sure I'll pick up on this series. I mean, I really don't like "trilogies" that suddenly turn into open "series"...

Urgh. These are the sort of covers that would put me (and most likely plenty of other people who usually avoid fantasy) off picking up a book. The UK ones are classier and less clichéd.

I keep eyeing up this series. Have many of you read either of them yet? Did you enjoy them?

I just can't seem to make up my mind on if I should get them. They keep calling to me to pick them up and I have heard only from a few people great things of them, but I just need to hear a little more.

Totally agree with Isis here. The UK ones are understated and look very classy. These covers here are your typical generic fantasy scene that might look nice as a piece of art but really put me off as a book cover.

Ramah.

Dont kid yourself about the UK edition being more classy. Anyone that has a stick up their ass about fantasy is going to look down on both.

ramah you obviously have not read the books because these scenes are from the books .please engage your brain cell before you comment.

I like how both depict definite scenes from the novels. I think they're pretty good. I own the UK versions and don't mind them too much, I reckon they're OK but these ones are probably slightly better which is surprising given how God-awful many US covers are.

Also yes, it is a really fun and rollicking series with some very cool steampunk thrown into a great idea with the insect and arachnid kinden. I too thought it was originally only a trilogy but am actually liking the fact that there will be plenty more tales set in this universe.
