New book trailer for Brent Weeks' THE BLACK PRISM

Looks like Orbit went all out to create this book trailer for the paperback release of Brent Weeks' The Black Prism (Canada, USA, Europe, AbeBooks). The trailer was directed by Leo Kei Angelos.

They are NOT doing themselves any favors with this kind of stuff...

Well, I would not buy the book based on this trailer, it makes the book seem very amateurish, with silly characters and not so fancy glasses.

Damn it. It's so lame. It'll put off readers than anything. And what's with those weird glasses? Looks more funny than serious.

Oh wow, I got this book last year and loved it to bits. His work is definately aimed towards the market that they made this ad for... but was it really necessary? I've introduced at least 7 people to the night angel triology and black prism because it's a good read. I don't think me showing people this ad would make people want to read it. You don't actually get from the clip what sort of "magic" is used at all.

I sorta guilty pleasure liked it but it's not doing the book justice at all.

Forced myself through the first book and a half of the Night Angel Trilogy before I set it down. It was just awful. It read like it was written by someone in their early teens.

The glasses have to do with the magic in the book. Uh... its been a while since I read it but I think its like people can create certain things from light. Some can create from blue light, green light, red light, other lights(don't remember) and the glasses just sorta filter out the other unneeded colours.

Yeah...somebody needs to explain this better than me

Clearly they got a bunch of LARPers & someone who knows Adobe After Effects and decided to take a nice big squelchy shit on what's probably a great book.

I enjoyed his previous trilogy and will wait until this one is fully out before reading, but this really doesn't help its case.

I;d be interested to know where book trailer originated. Who thought it would be a good idea to saddle mediocre videos with probably great books? I don't see the point of doing something this half-arsed and probably detrimental to the sales of the book. Even a 12 year old can see this is stupidity personified.

heh from what i understand a lot of books have trailers outside of the states such as this one for wise man's fear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK_YAeTcJBg&feature=player_embedded but yeah this black prism one does nothing for the book and is extra cheesey. Granted I enjoy a little cheese whiz on my steak sandwich once in a while but i don't eat the stuff for it's nutritional value just as I enjoy pure brainless popcorn eating action flicks in the same way as Brent Week's books - as long as I don't expect life changing revelations and emotional self discovery from them. This trailer could've done it's job with the resources they show, but the direction is just horrid. I do enjoy a little cheese whiz on my food when the mood strikes me but i wouldnt want the stuff shoved down my throat with a soup ladle from a big bucket.

Also this totally makes me wanna shout "LIGHTNING BOLT!" and throw nerf balls :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_ekugPKqFw

Wow, that is pure camp! Reminded me of Darkon. Lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt! Lee Roy...Jenkins!

Couldn't agree more that they do no favors with this kind of stuff.

Looks like a SyFy movie.

And I thoroughly enjoyed the Night Angel Trilogy.

henrythefifth - Darkon! That's what I was trying to remember, I saw that doco a few years ago - it's EXACTLY like that except someone's added some effects in.

Also, is it just me or did the chick with the round glasses looks like a bizarre cross between John Lennon and Yoko Ono? (aka Sean Lennon)
