2007 World Fantasy Award Finalists

Here are the nominations for best novel:

- Lisey's Story, Stephen King (Scribner; Hodder & Stoughton)
- The Privilege of the Sword, Ellen Kushner (Bantam Spectra; Small Beer Press)
- The Lies of Locke Lamora, Scott Lynch (Gollancz; Bantam Spectra)
- The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden, Catherynne M. Valente (Bantam Spectra)
- Soldier of Sidon, Gene Wolfe (Tor)

What!?! No Robert Stanek!?! Any list that doesn't include Stanek's name is ludicrous! The WFA will undoubtedly receive a subpoena from the hotmail lawyers. An investigation is in order!

On a more serious note, I'm rooting for the underdog and hope that Scott Lynch wins. This list also reminds me that I need to read both the Kushner and the Valente books.

For the complete list with all the categories, check out Locus Magazine.

Robert Stanek is perhaps the world's greatest fantasy author, he makes all the 'best of' lists in Amazon and his 'lawyers' will shoot you down in flames if you say otherwise!

The World Fantasy Award list makes me realise that I still haven't read enough fantasy... Oh well, I'll just keep reading! ;o)

As enjoyable as Lynch's first novel was, I didn't enjoy or marvel as much over it as I did over the Valente and the Wolfe. Still need to read the Kushner and the King to complete the set.

Strong field again (although last year's was slightly stronger, I felt). I'm going to guess it'll come down to Kushner, Valente, or Wolfe, with the slightest of nods towards Valente, at least here at this non-voting member. I'm just tickled pink that I picked two of them for my top 3 reads last year (VanderMeer's Shriek I felt should have made the list), with Lynch as an honorable mention.

And Pat! You didn't mention the Yeard in this! :P

What about Goodkind, huh? He's still the greatest. :D NO ONE CAN WITHSTAND THE YEARD!

(Seriously, I'm rooting for Lynch, or Kushner)

Valente rules them all !

Pity those who have not read Stanek's masterworks. They are living only in the shadow of true life.

I guess I will go against the tide. I think either Ellen Kushner or the superlative Gene Wolfe should snag the honourkeropp.
