Of all the fantasy I've read, Stephen is one of the most adept at writing (prose), not just story telling. When you write, are you conscious of how your write each sentence and the overall flow, or is this just your natural style?
Was it difficult to go back to The Land after so many years and write a new story? In the interim, has your writing changed much or have your thoughts about how a multi-volume complex story is told changed any?
When I began Runes of the Earth I wasn't sure he could draw me back when Covenant and others I had come to like were "gone".. but pull me back he did!
You can read chapter one and two on his website..and I can't wait for the books release. If you don't have a good review I will be very surprised!
I couldn't think of a thing to ask him that he, most likely, hasn't been asked a million times.. but I hope you can take a moment at the end of the interview to thank him. Thank him for bringing back his characters and his land for his readers. Not many authors "return" to characters and lands they have invisioned, always stating.. they tired of it and wanted to move on. It's understandable...but sad for the readers who have become so involved with them.. so thank him whole heartedly!
SRD stated in interviews before 'Runes of the Earth' that he had waited to write this third series until he'd improved his writing skills sufficiently. How does he personally judge he's holding up so far? Does he regret not waiting longer, or has he achieved self-confirmation that he waited long enough?
Will the original two trilogies ever be re-released in the hardcover format? I mean with the great work being done at Night Shade Press and Subterranean Press, it would seem that limited edition hardcovers of the six books would be no-brainers.
Were Patricia McKillip and David Lunde used for the character development of Terisa Morgan and Geraden?
How did you ever learn to weave so much Thematic Modulation consistently through the body of your works as if they were strands of intertwining DNA. You continue to get even better with age, does your complexity and richness of this technique contribute to the length of time it takes you to develop the story or did it just come naturally as you take your ideas and put to paper?
