Hey guys,
So things are settling down a bit...
I was extremely fond of the previous template and I'm kind of sad to see it go. But I like this one (some of you may recall that I selected this Notebook template for my Survivor/Koh-Lanta blog last year), and it looks as though this could be the new look for Pat's Fantasy Hotlist. We'll have to wait and see...
To my detractors, sadly the new look won't change anything. So yes, you can expect the same kind of crappy content you have come to hate with a passion, day in and day out.
But now comes what I dread the most: Updating the blogroll and all the other features of the Hotlist. It's been a few years since the last update and I need your help.
What SFF blogs of interest do you feel should be added to my own blogroll? What's missing from the "Speculative Fiction Authors," "Publishers," "SFF Resources," and "Message Boards" sections? I have to admit that I've been out of touch with these things for too long.
What else would you like to see added to the Hotlist?
Cheers,
Patrick

I like this template. It's very easy on the eyes.
I like the layout of the new site, but the colors make reading the text extremely hard--light beige background with a brown-ish text is really bad contrast.
Fantasy faction: http://fantasy-faction.com/
Ranting Dragon: www.rantingdragon.com
Staffer's Musings: http://staffersmusings.blogspot.com/
Three great blogs I think anyone should add to their blogrolls.
It is a nice design. On my screen some of the sidebar titles aren't showing up cleanly though with the bottom quarter of the words being cutoff. Seems to be happening to the sidebar titles that break into 2 lines.
Some of my daily blog visits include:
staffersmusings.blogspot.com
booktionary.blogspot.com
scotspec.blogspot.com
All with usually good interviews and reviews.
Okay, just spent an hour or so updating the blogroll. Think I got all the good ones, but I probably forgot a few.
Let me know...
There's a nifty blog called Rob's Blog o' Stuff you may know about, which is missing from the blog roll:
http://blogorob.blogspot.com
http://antickmusings.blogspot.com/
What Bryce said.
Also Civilian Reader & Little Red Reviewer & LEC books & Literary Musings and Book Monkey Scribbles (if he's not on already)
Rob,
Your blog has always been there, my friend! From the very beginning! I'll just change the title, which at the moment if Blogorob...
Oh my lord I made the Hotlist! Well thanks, Pat.
Quite like the new look... though I'm having problems with the sidebar as well. Been thinking of a change to something similar myself of late, but actually pushing the button scares me half to death; I haven't changed templates in the entire life of TSS.
I don't update so frequently but I also do have an in-topic blog
http://loopingworld.com
if you want to add.
for starters, Bakker's site has been gone for over a year, might want to go thru the rest of the author links to make sure, maybe add some new ones like NK Jemisin who has a great site and updates her blog fairly regularly
I would like to see somewhere where you can access all the "best of the year" lists that you do. It would be nice to see them all accessible on one page of links or something.
id like to see the pattern behind the text removed, makes it really annoying to read. rest... ok i guess :)
Please change the pattern behind the text, my eyes would adore the blog again.
Stormy
I agree I like the background, but the text needs to stand out a little more, it's a bit hard to read.
Funny some of you should mention that the text doesn't stand out enough. On my laptop, it actually stands out better than it did with the previous template... :/
Okay, so I also updated the authors' section. Probably missed some, just as I likely missed some in the blogroll. But I'm getting there! ;-)
There's Abigail Nussbaum (SH's review editor)'s fantastic blog, which is well worth adding: http://wrongquestions.blogspot.com/
Also Dazed Rambling: http://dazedrambling.blogspot.com/
Then, on a more selfish note, there's always my own to consider... evilhat.blogspot.com
Change everything about the blog... no, wait... keep it all exactly as it is!
Glad i could help!
You should consider adding Greg Hamerton to your author list. Love his Lifesong series. His site is a great read as well...
Looks good Pat!
Check out Rising Shadow which has a pretty decent database of upcoming books: http://en.risingshadow.net/
I find also the design hard on the text.
For example, "Fantasy and science fiction and speculative" on top of the page is completely invisible for me.
I like this template except for the watermarks, which obscure some of the text, especially what Eric mentioned. The commenters names are fine because they're in bold, but the first line of each comment seems to be hiding within the darker brown of the paper.

As for your detractors - who cares! F$?&%-em! Love your work Pat. Keep it up!
Can't believe I forgot this one: http://bastardbooks.blogspot.com/
Also, I'm digging the new look and the conformity among the blogs.
Hey Pat,
The link you've got for the Malazan Empire forums is an old one so people might be missing out on all the crazy discussions. (It should just be http://forum.malazanempire.com/ now)
Oh and as a random aside I'd recommend reading The Rook by Dan O'Malley. I was taught by his mother at school so I might be a tad biased but for me it was reminiscent of Neverwhere with a little Chronicles of Amber and definitely worth a read.
I should say that overall Pat it actually looks fantastic, however, since you asked for things to be fixed, just giving my opinion. :)
I like this layout too, only like some people already mentioned, the 'stains' behind the text make it more difficult to read the text.
I'd like it if you added an email subscription feature. I'd like to get your posts delivered to my emailbox.
I'll take this blog any way I can, but I gotta give another vote against the pattern behind the text. Even when zoomed in, to make the text bold, it's too distracting.
hi there! i know this is much delayed, but i just realized that i can't search your blog for a term/author's name/title/etc... anymore.
or perhaps my browser just doesn't display that feature?
anyway, i used to often search your blog, and would like to continue doing so.
thanks!
