The original story (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) was much better - this was just one battle in the entire story and the movie wasn't even accurate, especially the second half with the flying swordsmen and the women playing 'made-up' roles

Q: What does Red Cliff mean?

Red Cliff is a place where some of the battles took place. The movie was OK, some of the battles were very cool though, but what the trailer doesn't say is that this is only the first half of a two part film and I've been told by my Chinese friends that the second half sucks.

In Asia it has been distributed as two films (part one and part two), but for the Western market there is a different version, a single, 2.5 hours movie.

Really liked Red Cliff I & II but it requires a little bit of patience for folks used to Western movies. Semi-faithful to its subject matter, but takes a bit of creative license (as any movie does). Good action and characters.

Hey just a head up, I've seen the film and it is a good one. Sure I the Chinese I know dislike the historical inaccuracies but it is very enjoyable.

@Tiziano,

I've seen the first part, is it worth watching the second part or the western version?

When is this one coming out in the US?

See the Dual films not the shortened Westernised one, so much is cut that it is just poxy.

I was worried about that. I really don't like it when foreign films are simplified or trimmed.
