New Poll: ASOIAF Ultimate Survivor

With George R. R. Martin's propensity to kill off major protagonists, one has to wonder who exactly has a chance to remain among the living once we turn the very last page and reach the end of the forthcoming A Dream of Spring.

With the author's love for bittersweet endings, I doubt that fan favorite characters such as Jon, Arya, Tyrion, and Jaime will still draw breath at the end. My money is on Sansa to go the distance, much as I hate her.

So who do you think will endure and become A Song of Ice and Fire's ultimate survivor???

Tyrion will survive.

Tyrion will survive, as will Samwell.

Jon and Dany probably.

And the Hound.

And Jamie and his magical golden hand. (It's coming.)

How could Tyrion NOT survive? He's tricksy and has already nearly been kiled more than anyone apart from possibly Arya.

Stego,

They can't all survive. George would never do that to us! ;-) I'm sure he's got a few tricks up his sleeve that will make the Red Wedding look tame...

The only character I am absolutely convinced will survive is Arya....everyone else is in play.

I don't think anyone from House Lannister is getting out of this alive. They are caught between like 3 rocks and even more hard places.

Jon Snow is at the center of whatever is coming I think,so I would bet on him.

Snow and dany are sure to die, the last of house targaryen. Dying triumphantly to save the world. Jon becoming harder and colder, he will die heroically doing a neccesary job that no one else can, even if he won't get the fame. Dany is becoming an indominatable force, too powerful to exist in a peaceful world. She will complete a messiah like arc and die.
My bets with sansa too surviving. She seems to be groomed towards ruling Winterfell.
Tryion will live i think, his dying would serve no purpose and alive he could be invaluable for his wisdom. Everyone else is 50/50 in my mind except Cersei. She has to die for being a hated evil b****.

A brilliant thing about George R.R. is that we really don't know.

Dany, of course.

Beyond that, I have a theory that Bran will be killed while "projecting" into Hodor, and become trapped in him (like that wildling was in that Eagle), and finally be that knight that he's always wanted to be...

Yeah, wacky, I know, but it's a theory anyway...

Dany, Tyrion, Bran/Hodor and Samwell. Arya will be around for a long while, otherwise that "prophesy" that that ancient midget said over her will make little sense.

You might start another thread, about characters we will rejoice over when they perish...

Don't vote ! George R.R. Martin will read the results and kill off all the people with the highest percentage !

Im hoping the imp survives, and that Sansa dies a long gruesome gritty way.

I think Pat has it right.

Hmmm, I can't decide if the poll is spoilerific or not... I think it kinda is, but what do I care?

ARYA FTW!!!

I think Sansa will survive because he would imagine it's too pleasing to us to kill her off. I do think Arya will likely make it, too; either her or Jon Snow, but not both.

Tyrion may survive or have a spectacular death scene. I am leaning toward the latter.

In response to William's comment above, isn't the Hound already dead? I know I have to go back and reread the last book or two, but I would swear he died of a fever or something when he and Arya were together.

I think Jon will survive and end up marrying Dany and they will rule the 7 Kingdoms together. Tyrion will survive and become the Hand of the King. Ok, maybe not all 7 Kingdoms after all. There will still be fighting at the end of the books and all 7 won't be united yet. That's my guess, anyway.

Rhaegar said...

Jon of course, he is the main protagonist, a son of ice and fire.

Peter said...

I had Jon and daenerys as the new king and queen when everything's said and done, maybe with tyrion as the new hand but as mentioned i can't really see Martin ending it on that happy a note!

Shadow said...

Tyrion will lose some more parts of his body but he will be still alive in the end. Jon, Bran and Dany also should survive.

The first is Bran, the last will be Bran.

Bran & Dany live happily ever after scouring the land with dragons from the air and direwolves from the ground.

I think Tyrion, Jaime, Theon and Cersei won't make it. I have doubts over Sansa - the only Stark without a wolf - and Daenerys, though Dany may become queen and then we get a glimpse of her dying childless many years later having named someone else as heir.

I think Bran, Arya, Rickon and probably Jon will make it to the end.

I think after Dance with Dragons or the events immediately hinted at therein, most others will survive. Just becuase.

I think Rickon's entire reason for existing as a character is for him to survive and rebuild the Stark House in the end.

I see Jon, Sansa, Bran and Tyrion surviving. Dany is toast. Undecided about Arya (tho I hope she makes it). I think Jaime will die in the final book, which will leave me devastated and cursing GRRM!

I really think Tyrion is good to go!

Benjen will be the last man standing. He's just hiding out beyond the wall until all the bullshit blows over.

I hate these kinds of polls - we don't have a crystal ball, ya know. (But I like Rhaegar's comment about Jon Snow being the son of ice and fire.) For those who ultimately hate the ending, whatever it may be, I'm sure we'll have a lot of fan fic endings to choose from. "You mean I'm dead?" "Everybody dies, son."

Ringstad said...

My money is on Bran, Rickon, Arya and Davos - the rumours of his death are greatly exaggerated!

Emma said...

Daenerys (sp?), Sansa, Bran... I don't see any of the significant lannisters surviving!

Tomas said...

I don't see how Tyrion survives unless every other Lannister of any consequence is dead -- that includes cousins who don't even get print -- because that's how Westeros is set up. Clearly he's going to play a really important role but unless he's going to be kept in Kings Landing with the eventual victor at all times or he ends up living with Shagga or something, he's toast.
Me, I'm just waiting for the scene when Sansa deals with Littlefinger.

Mike said...

They'll all survive b/c GRRM will die before he ends the series and has stated he will not allow anyone else to finish it. Everyone knows this.

Brett said...

I think Tyrion will survive, along with Sansa and Daenerys.

Jon is on the borderline.

Bran is likely a dead man, Arya's dead, and Jaime is almost certainly dead.

What main characters have really died in the series, Eddard, Caitlyn, Rob (although Rob never had his own POV chapters). For the most part everyone else has made it through. Oh sure there have been many deaths of minor and major characters, but I think most of the main characters will make it through to the end.

I can see Arya and Tyrion joining up with Dany to become her Dragon riders. Bran could find himself there too. Although I think his future lied beyond the wall.

Cersie I agree will likely die or end up in exile. I just hope she suffers for awhile before the end.

Rickon is still just a baby. How old is he, six or seven now? Is he that old? Its very hard to keep track of how much time has passed since the first book. I just got to a part about 700 pages into the first book where one character mentioned that 6 months have gone by from an earlier chapter.

I could see Jamie dying a heroes death near the end. Redeeming himself in the eyes of his peers.

And Dany I think must survive, since her return to retake the 7 kingdoms will go hand in hand with defeating the "Others".

Ultimately no one knows but GRRM. And I can't wait to find out.

My money's on Shagga, son of Dolf, who will cut off all their manhoods, leaving us with some very well-fed goats. And possibly Arya, as well :)

As much as it pains me to say this, I think the Lannister boys are going down -- Jaime in a dramatic (but still snarky) act of redemption, and Tyrion whilst blowing up something large and impressive (perhaps Casterly Rock?)

Jeff - as fa as I remember we were told that Hound is dead, but there was no evidance - only his helmet, no body.

Tyrion and Bran, although Bran may not live as we know it.

Jeff & Shadow - read the books again, and you'll see that the Hound still lives. It's not that obvious, though, and I'm pretty sure I missed it first time around.

How many of you guys have read the Hedge Knight? Do so if you haven't, preferably the short story and not the adaptation.

my money is on the 2 fat folks {illyrio ( sp?) , Sam }, 2 lions ( lancel , tyrion ), 3 wolves ( arya, benjin , bran ), and a dragon ( the unknown dragon's head, riding the black dragon )...

I reckon Bronn will survive and be the founding father of a new house that will remain a power throughout restaurant (coat of arms a sellsword?)

I can also imagine Rickon surviving but the downside is that he'll be the despot that throws everything into chaos 20 years down the line with the most fearsome direwolf in the world - shaggydog(and it's understandable why he'd turn out there)

I agree with others that Bran might make it but as Hodor.

In the seven years I have been waiting for a new book I forget who has already been killed off sometimes. I honestly think No Starks will be left standing, leaving the bastard of Winterfell to inherit it. If any of the Lannisters survive I would be very surprised. I can't recall of the kinds bastard is alive or dead anymore. Would like to see him survive if he has not. Guess I can reread while I wait for July to come.
