To be honest, they should have stayed with the sublime original Deadhouse Gates cover from Bantam Press. . .

I fully agree! This cover is pretty bad: it does not connect to the story in any way; it's just a general medieval battle scene. It does nothing to capture a potential new reader.
On top of it not relating to Erikson's world, if I did pick up the book because I was attracted to the cover (based on the Malazan books I have read) I would be pretty disappointed with what I was reading and probably not get any more of the series.

This cover looks very good actually, far better than any other Erikson cover I've seen.
I'm half-expecting to see a Crusader cross on someone's shield after seeing that cover art...
I like the cover, it's just to bad that it is unrelated to the book

What do you think Erikson thinks about it? With his abhorrence for medieval-fantasy and all.
