So what did you think? Definitely not Robert Jordan's style.

Definitely not RJ's style. :(

I noticed right away the difference in narrative tone after reading the first two paragraph. Each one accentuating their difference. The first reads like an old friend, the second a stranger . . .

I'll wait till all three books are published before I read them. Till then I won't reread the whole series, hoping by that time my memory of WOT will be vague enough that I'll be able to enjoy the last three books. Right now, reading WOT with Sanderson's writing style is too jarring. Same reason why I can't read ICE's Malazan books.

I thought this was strongly written. Actually much closer to RJ's style than to Sanderson's from MISTBORN or ELANTRIS. You can tell it's not quite the same as Jordan's due to the fact that even a lot of the asides seem plot-focused rather than simply going over old ground again and again, but I would say under the circumstances that was a good thing.

The excerpt also confirmed a theory I'd held for many years about why Lews Therin failed to re-seal the Dark One's prison completely, so that makes me happy :-)

"Same reason why I can't read ICE's Malazan books."

Why, because ICE's style has many of Erikson's strengths and few of the corresponding weaknesses? RETURN OF THE CRIMSON GUARD was a significantly better book than TOLL THE HOUNDS and I am looking forward to STONEWIELDER immensely.

Wow, I feared the worst but Sanderson manages to make this feel like WOT 2.0. He keeps the magic and gets rid of the knitting, kudos.

Oh, and RoTCG was a great, great read. If ICE takes another quantum leap Stonewielder will be amazing.

I haven't read this yet - just about to, but the kettle hasn't quite a-boiled - why, though, does the email from Tor say the book is due out in November? Have they put the date back again, or is it just a slip?

And the cover's still reassuringly bad...With all the unwelcome changes we've had to endure,it's comforting to know some things don't change:)

WOW! I think I like it even better then RJ's! Min's viewing was NOT wrong. Mat just has not rescued her from the tower of ghenjei yet. As for the Osan'gar/Aran'gar, I thought EVERYBODY knew it is Lanfear and Asmodean but when I read the comments, I see otherwise.
