Do you remember when Mystar was talking all that shit about the series, that it would never see the light, etc? And now it's evident that Game of Thrones will make Legend of the Seeker look like a direct to DVD low-budget release. . .

Man I can't wait to see this series, it looks amazing. It seems like theres tons of amazing fantasy novels out there but for some reason all the movies and shows in the genre aren't well done at all (with the exception of lotr). It's a shame, really

In terms of shooting schedule vs. writing schedule, if the show is a huge hit, it will surpass the series before the next book (after Dragons) comes out.

...assuming he ever finished Dragons.

The problem is that most fantasy novels are pretty hefty things with lots of story in them, far more than can be reasonably crammed in an 90-120 minute movie at any rate. That's why episodic TV is a much better format for this sort of thing. I'm really looking forward to this - I just hope they don't screw it up or it may be the last time something like this gets made!

I think it will be great (I'm a big fan of the series) but so often fantasy/medieval type stuff has been translated so poorly to the film or TV medium that I am still quite scared. Think Legend of the Seeker, some of the ridiculous speech patterns on Spartacus, 300, Pillars of the Earth, Dungeon Siege, Dungeons & Dragons and plenty more I can't quite recall at the moment.

Having said that, some have worked really well - Willow, Braveheart, Gladiator, Stardust, Lord of the Rings.

We'll just have to wait and see. I think.

Based on what I've seen and heard following the progress of the show obsessively, I'm pretty confident they'll do a great job. I absolutely cannot WAIT for this show to start!

Apparently they're talking about STORM being two seasons because of the length of the book. That likely means DRAGONS will be as well (given that the book is apparently the same size as SWORDS, never mind it having to be integrated with the events of CROWS as well), giving us potentially seven seasons before they get to WINDS OF WINTER. Personally I think it's more likely that HBO will get cold feet and cancel it before then. I just hope they get to the end of SWORDS.
