I just hope mr. Martin didn't underestimated the size of the story he's writing regarding the quality cause it looks to me this one could go as far as WoT by the number of the books written.
I guess I'm in the minority among ASOIAF fans, but I'm not that thrilled about HBO's tv series.
It seems somewhat discouraging that they've started filming before Martin has finished the book series. I'll be surprised if GoT lasts longer than three seasons. I'm not sure whether an incomplete series would be worth watching. I'd hate to see my mental images of people and places replaced with something that won't even give a payoff in the end.
Oh well, I guess I can always rent the dvd:s if I change my mind or if GoT gets extremely good reviews or something like that.
Robin I'm a bit like you in that I'm wary of the show sucking, but I'm happy enough that they're making it, I don't think it will truly affect the novel writing at all - GRRM goes at his own pace and us poor plebs have to put up with it. He's a perfectionist and yes, he wrote himself into a corner but he's digging himself out of it.
Either way if it's good TV I'll be into it.
Who knows? It could fail dismally and we'll only get the one season, HBO don't rely on ratings but that doesn't mean they can't cancel shows.
I've only read the first two books so far but from the trailer the show looks good. Like all things it depends on whether or not they can build in the depth and complexity of the books into the TV series.

Looks like it might be better than the book, actually.

Oh yeah...need to subscribe to HBO just before it runs.....
Tyrion rocks this story!
This is a really encouraging trailer, it's almost word for word from the first chapter. Looks awesome!

Great trailer! Dare I get my hopes up expecting this to be any good?
