Sneak peek of HBO's Game of Thrones

Whoever it is that runs the excellent Winter is Coming was invited to attend a special HBO press event.

HBO had hoped to show the pilot here at the winter TCA press tour, but it isn’t quite ready yet. So they put together 15 minutes of clips from what looks to be the first three episodes. And it is, in a word, amazing.

Follow this link to a full summary of the clips that were shown.

Warning: It will get you even more excited about the TV series! ;-)

what's the point in making the show ?
i admit that it looks good, but if the series is no where near to being finished ?
btw, hbo didn't finish "carnivale" beyond a second season (out of 6 projected), so do you trust them to finish this one ?

Machinery's comments notwithstanding (and maybe he's right), I'm still looking forward to this. With a couple exceptions, I feel that the fantasy genre gets the short end of the stick when it comes to tv/film adaptationss.

I'm hoping HBO gets this one right, and that it starts a trend. In a few years maybe there will be an hbo series about an assassin from the city of Othir... (A guy can dream.)

tv simply needs to get someone involved in the decision making process that understands fantasy...so far...while there's been lots of "close but no cigar"...not so much...

I too am hoping that HBO gets this one right

looks absolutely amazing from what I've seen so far. Not that I don't have some reservations about certain choices that have been made, but I am eagerly anticipating the April 17th premier date.

OK, so let's assume it's cancelled after 2 or even 1 season. I, for one, will not be complaining. Disappointed? Certainly, but not complaining. Every hour we get out of such a wonderful adaptation as only this HBO crew can do, is one more than we'll have if they never made them at all. For anyone who hasn't read the books? Well, it'll be a good time to start. So let's can any negativism and get on with enjoying the ride.

The current plans seems to be that it will take 6 or 7 seasons to cover all the books up to the end of A DANCE WITH DRAGONS. Due to that, the situation will either be that GRRM gets a move on and finishes the books; HBO finish the story themselves using the outlines he has already given them; or the TV series and books divert quite significantly and go off and do their own things.

"btw, hbo didn't finish "carnivale" beyond a second season (out of 6 projected), so do you trust them to finish this one ?"

That was the creator's choice. After Ronald D. Moore left to helm the new BSG after Season 1, the creator of the show as left in charge of CARNIVALE in Season 2. Budgets ballooned out of control, he couldn't reign it back in and when he started making angry demands that HBO commission all 4 remaining seasons at once (despite concerns over the ratings) HBO decided to cancel the project.

THRONES, notably, is not dependent on one particular producer being involved (that's also what killed DEADWOOD), nor is its budget outrageously massive (which killed ROME). Assuming it doesn't totally bomb in the ratings, it should be able to go on for at least a few seasons.
