Is Science Fiction Obsolete

It appears to be, at least according to Discover Magazine. Read the article here. I can't say that the author seems to know what he's talking about. . .

If your goal is to persuade and be believed about the truth of a particular point, then what would possess you to choose to work in a genre whose very name, fiction, explicitly warns the reader not to believe a word she reads?"

Maybe because they're STORIES. And stories are, first and foremost, about entertainment, not preaching. Please tell me that guy doesn't write fiction. I would hate to be subjected to it.
