New UK covert art for the mass market paperback edition of Joe Abercrombie's BEFORE THEY ARE HANGED

This is the new cover art for Before They Are Hanged (Canada, USA, Europe)

As I said before when Gollancz decided to reissue the mass market paperback edition of Joe Abercrombie's The First Law, I understand that they are trying to attract new readers with these different covers.

But man, the originals were so cool. It's a shame to replace them with these. . .:S

I hate covers that show the faces of main characters. It fucks with your imagination

Is that supposed to be Glokta? He looks way too pretty.

I always saw Glokta as older. Oh well, I still do.

It's a crime novel set in ....no no no I got it .... it's a cold war espionage novel set in Istanbul!!! Now that I guessed the story line from the cover what do I win?

They could've at least have him smiling... you know, so we could see his full set of teeth.

Well, that reminds me that I need to pick up The First Law before the old editions are gone...

I agree with Ed. Aside from that ginormous moon, nothing about that cover even hints that it is a fantasy novel.

That guy looks, as long as he keeps his mouth closed, like he'd have no trouble finding a lady friend.

Where's the repulsive Glokta?

As I am informed by Gollancz, the new covers are for the A-format mmpbs and are not replacing the B-formats, which will remain on sale and 'are not going anywhere'.

Seriously... That's nowhere near what I would have expected Glokta to look like. He's actually good looking in this picture... And everything I've read about him makes me think I would be repulsed just to see him....

Nevermind that it doesn't look like a Fantasy cover in the slightest...

No real surprise here, but as a cover for a fantasy novel, particularly one like Before They Are Hanged, it sucks. As other people have said if that's Glokta they got his look seriously wrong. Why do they find a need to fix something that isn't broken?
