Team of destiny?

Who would have thought???

The Montreal Canadiens limped into the postseason with 4 straight loses and had to face the most powerful offense in the NHL in the first round. Seven games later, the Washington Capitals are playing golf and watching hockey on TV.

Then came the defending Stanley Cup champions. After the first game, it seemed evident that the Habs had given everything they had in the first round and would get toasted pretty quickly by the Pittsburgh Penguins. And yet, against all odds, they bounced back, and defeated Sid the Kid and his posse.

There is a new god in La Métropole. His name is Jaroslav Halak. How crazy has the city become in the last couple of weeks? The 21,000+ seats of the Bell Centre were sold out in about 30 minutes a couple of days ago for the seventh and decisive game. Nothing special, you say? It should be pointed out that the game was held in Pittsburgh. These Habs fans payed to watch it on the big screen, and pay a ridiculous 10$ to 12$ a beer to boot. And as you can see, with a 5-2 victory over the champs, people were quite happy:

Congrats Pat. As a Pens fan can't say I'm happy but I'm rooting for you guys now (I'll be physically ill if Philly goes to the Finals) I hope Halak can keep it up cause he's about due to hit the wall or turn into one of those goalies that disappear the yr after a great Cup run during contract yr.

If the playoffs were over now would you give Halak or Cammalleri the Conn Smythe?

Yeesh, you'd think the Habs won the Stanley Cup. At least the Oiler's got to within 1 goal of winning it all in 2006.

Wow what a game Friday. Flyers down 3-0, game 7, on the road, with their backup goalie, and win. That series will go down as one of the greatest comebacks in all of Philly sports history, without a doubt. Unbelievable!
