Steven Erikson's THE FORGE OF DARKNESS is done!

According to a recent Facebook status update from Steven Erikson, it appears that the upcoming The Forge of Darkness, first volume in a trilogy recounting the Tiste history, is done. And the manuscript weighs in at 292,000 words.

Sounds good! =)

I haven't started Malazan yet, although I have the first book, so it's on my to read list, but is this related to the series?

This is just a guess, and I rightfully expect to be flamed if I am incorrect, but I would assume that it is somewhat connected. The Tiste are a race in the Malazan books and you are given glimpses of their past. So this will most likely flesh out, or at least a part of, their history.

Where exactly is this Facebook status update from Steven Erikson? I'd sure like to follow him.

Wow, 292k ... I thought he said he was probably going smaller? That's bigger than Deadhouse Gates (270k). Emphasize 'probably', lol

Thanks Cecrow, you answered my first question before I could ask, since I don't know the word count to page conversion.

My second question is: Does anyone know a proposed publication date?

Thanks,

Jeff

This book is the first in a prequel trilogy, taking place hundreds of thousands of years prior to the main MALAZAN sequence. Erikson said a while back he has attempted to make it a good jumping-on point for new readers.

I believe the current plan is to bring the book out in summer-autumn 2012.

That's so cool! I've been wanting to know more about the Tiste Andii, Liosan and Edur. I finished reading The Crippled God last month, and just finished reading one of the offshoots by Ian C. Esslemont - Stonewielder.
