Another crapfest. . .:-(

Went to see G. I. Joe with two friends from work last night. . .

My expectations couldn't have been lower, and still the movie managed to suck. The funny thing is that early on it wasn't that bad. Don't get me wrong, though. That shit didn't fly too high, but it wasn't as awful as I had envisioned.

But things quickly took a turn for the worse, and in the end the flick was utter fucking shit.

Thank you, Hollywood, for raping yet another one of my childhood memories. . .:-(

Why didn't you go see District 9?

Best movie of the summer with The Hurt Locker.

Yeah, definitely second District 9. One of the better scifi films I've seen in a while imo.

Why'd you waste your money if you had such low expectations?

And what's with the leather-bound babe on a GI Joe movie poster? True, I know nothing about the movie, but I do know about the toys, and a leather-bound babe just seems so out of place. Won't the audience be crawling with 10-year-old boys? Or is it aimed toward thirty-somethings who played with it as a child?

The book isn't so hot either...

The leather bound babe would be The Baroness, one of the main adversaries of GI Joe. I actually found the movie to be enjoyable. It was a live action cartoon where you walk into the theater and hit pause on your higher brain functions. Fun time for me and my son. But I can see why some find it disagreeable. In the end, it's a movie based on toys.

District 9 was good, but I think they could have edited it down some. Some parts in middle were just boring.

G.I. Joe wasn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I've certainly seen much worse. It's definitely a brainless popcorn fest, but a fun one at that. As a fan of the cartoon though, I didn't like some of the changes made to the lore, while the special effects could have been much better...

District 9 though, is a terrific movie, especially if you go in without knowing what to expect :)

It's funny you should say that right after I just read Lucius Sheperd's blog on a similar topic.

You gotta see District 9! It's amazing. Like a foreign film with Hollywood budget. Amazing visual effects with an actual good story.

The movie has PLENTY of room for improvement, still, i had fun...

one thing though that bothers me.. when Cobra Commander self destructed the Cobra base... well, the ice shelf fell on the base... ahm.. isn't ice supposed to float in water?

I skipped the crapfest, and caught District 9 and The Hurt Locker over the weekend. Both are excellent, character-driven action films. In my perfect world, I'd chain up Stephen Sommers, Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay and make them watch these over and over until they figured out that THIS is how movies are supposed to be made!

I enjoyed Gi-Joe because it wasn't all deep. It didn't try to capture a golden globe or an oscar. It was just a cool movie with lots of things being blown up. The Barroness was hot and well it's based on a Toy. But of course I also loved Transformers, Hellboy, Xmen and I'm probably gonna see Taratino's new flick on opening night! So sue me. ;-)

I saw it and it wasn't great but to be fair i might have liked it if I was about 11 years old which is what its geared towards i think.

Did they really need to screw so badly with the storyline about Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow?

I was not dissapointed because I got exactly what I went in for. A live action cartoon. And since I was not a fan of the cartoon series I was not mad (or even noticed) if they changed anything that would "ruin" it.

It is by no means a good movie, but I was entertained. What can I say I am a sucker for the Joes. Its in my blood.

Still umming and ahhing whether to spend money to actually see this at the cinema but probably will as I'll see anything at the flicks. Had the toys and comic books as a kid and I do adore Sienna Miller...

District 9 was a good, fun film with a bit of a message to it, The Hurt Locker was also quite an awesome film - finally an Iraq film that was character driven!

Go check out Moon with Sam Rockwell in it, that was an awesome piece of cinema (apart from last 30 seconds of audio). Inglorious Basterds was good fun if a little long.

Keep an eye out for "The Loved Ones" a new Aussie horror/thriller/comedy that shits all over the crap that was Wolf Creek. It's playing at TIFF for any Toronto film buffs.

Some other good films I've seen recently: Flame & Citron (Denmark), In The Loop (UK/US), Thirst (S.Korea), The Chaser (S.Korea), Breathless (S.Korea), Still Walking (Japan), Louise-Michel (French), An Education (UK), Bronson (UK), Eden Lake (UK), The Cove (Canada), Balibo (AUS), About Elly (Iran), The September Issue (US), All Around Us (Japan), It Might Get Loud (US), Food Inc. (US), Blessed (Aus), North (Norway) and Tears For Sale (Serbia).

Interesting but not great: Martyrs (France), Mum & Dad (UK), Antichrist (US), Mother (S.Korea) and Home (France).

I loves me movies!

You bought the ticket, dude. ;-)

I have yet to see this movie myself...but I have had mixed reviews of it from people I trust, all of which grew up watching the old TV show like I did. About half loved it, and about half said it was a waste of time. Guess I'll have to go see for myself.

They keep making crap because you keep paying for it.

"I'm trying to propagate this as a meme in geek culture. How about we don't go and see it and don't talk about it incessantly? Because it's just shit. How about we don't go see Transformers: Rise of the Fuckin' Whatevers and then complain about how Michael Bay fucked up our favorite franchise? Because you know what? He's Michael Bay! Of course he did! Let's not go there.

Letsnotgo.com. That's a brilliant idea. You could have reviews by people who haven't seen it explaining why you shouldn't go, and the review could be simply based on the publicity machine." - China Mieville

I thought the Arctic ice shelf was melting. So how can they hide the base? Sorry, I shouldn't ask such deep and meaningful questions about movies like this. - Ian
