Thanks for this great article!
But that map is not of the Seven Cities continent, only the upper left piece. It's the malazan empire, as it says.

Er, that's the map of Quon Tali from HOUSE OF CHAINS, not Seven Cities. That said there are some rumours that a complete map of the entire Malazan planet will appear in THE CRIPPLED GOD, which will be interesting.

Otherwise an interesting post. I guess his reference means that Scott Bakker has started reading further into the series as well (when I met him he'd only read the first two and thought DEADHOUSE GATES was "a wonderful, wonderful novel,").

new characters in the 10th book ?
is the story going to end in the 10th book, or is it a new begining ?

@machinery

The characters were already in book 9. Book 10 will close the story. However, Steven Erikson has already a contract for two more trilogies (one dealing with Karsa's vow to end civilization and another dealing with the Tiste Andii before their exile). And of course Esselmont will write his series about the continents not seen yet (and a book taking place in Darujhistan).

i'd like to read new books set in the future, especialy the fate of several characters.
but going back to tiste andii ? not for me.

Wewt! I'm glad you finally saw my post about this! :) It's only like the third time I've tried to tell ya! LoL

At any rate, I am absolutely loving his Life as a Human blog. Quite delicious!

Anyone have a link to where Bakker made that comment?

Well-written, but it feels strongly like a deja-vue. I have only read the first two. And again it's long dry descriptions of suffering, interspersed with nobleness of truth and bearing and children who seem older than they are. That's not a motivating realization to read all the books inbetween.

Now I see he addresses this himself. Oh well.
