New UK cover art for Guy Gavriel Kay's YSABEL

Considering how wonderful the previous cover was, this one really doesn't appeal to me at all. . .

Er, arg?
It looks like the cover for a bad YA book (the YA part I'm guessing is deliberate, the cheesiness less so). Plus, the background sucks. I know lavander+churches is supposed to suggested Provence (and as a Frenchwoman I have some objections to that cliché), but the two sets of colours just don't go together. It just looks psychedelic.
(don't get me started on the little "mystical" halo, either...)

That would be "suggest Provence", not "suggested"...

I'm with you, Pat. In comparison to the original, this cover is just plain lame.

The inclusion of "The Past is Never Dead" makes it lok like a movie poster.
I like the cover but it is misleading since it DOES look like a Young Adult book. Maybe that was the point? To bring in younger readers?

Oh my...not great at all. The previous cover at least made it interesting enough to pick up and look at it. I'd probably bypass this book if I saw in the store and didn't know what it was...which would be a shame, as I love this book.

I gon't like this one too, it looks like something that might be used for a usual historical romance. My favorite Ysabel cover is the one from the Canadian HC edition, ISBN 0670043214: it's also a statue's face, but with green leaves around it which make it feel softer, more benign.
And the covers of the UK and US editions remind me of The Da Vinci Code too much.
